Understanding the data

All results are official government inspection outcomes, not our assessment. "Pass" means the facility was allowed to stay open — it does not mean zero issues. Score starts at 100 and deducts: -5 per latest issue, -10 per critical severity issue, -3 per conditional pass, -15 per closure, -2 per repeat category (3+ inspections). +10 bonus if latest inspection was clean. Latest Categories shows the top issue types from the most recent inspection. Top Categories shows the top 3 issue types across all inspections. Repeats counts distinct violations that appeared in 2+ inspections (facility didn't fix them). Critical and Signif. columns count violations by severity tier. Cities using binary Critical/Non-Critical (Ottawa, Halifax, Vancouver, Alberta, NL) will always show 0 in the Significant column.Montreal & Quebec City show court convictions only, not routine inspections (Quebec law P-29).New Brunswick has no individual violation details — only Pass/Conditional Pass/Closed results.
